Extending accessibility and usability with xhtml+voice.

Quick links to places in this page.

Welcome to joe budd's X+V site.

This web site talks to you and you can talk to it.

The site went live on January 1, 2008. This site is a project into making a web site more accessible and usable with a voice user interface. The technology which i implement is known as XHTML + Voice, other wise known as X+V.

If you are not hearing this web page talk to you then see my section "Opera browser". You need to be using the opera browser and have voice added and turned on if you want to talk to this site.

You can look too.

If you are using the Opera browser with voice turned on, look at the source code of each page while the voice talks to you and you talk back to it. Save the code and tweak it to learn how the code works. I hope that you will find this site to be educational. Every page in this site contains source code which is a working example of XHTML+Voice code.

Accessibility and usability.

If you are interested in usability and accessibility for any reason then i hope that you will find this site to be very interesting. I think that it contains a wealth of information regarding XHTML+Voice and voice user interface design.

Voice User Interface Design.

If you are interested in VUI design for the web then you might be interested in how i have designed this VUI. This site should give some insight into designing a VUI with XHTML+Voice.

Audio Books.

An unexpected development has been with the book style layout of a section. When a section of the web site has a book layout the first page is the first article, the second page is the second article and so on. The VUI now treats a section with a book layout like an audio book. The VUI reads the first page and then continues to the next page and reads that and so on. See for yourself with my republishing of Goerge Orwell's 1984.

Comments.

Please use this site, and then leave me some of your critical observations. I will appreciate all of your comments because positive or negative, they will all be constructive.
